096: Charlie Williams (Conference Talk)

Charlie Williams is a historian at Birkbeck College, University of London, with Birkbeck’s ‘Hidden Persuaders’ project.

His research into the popularization of the concept of brainwashing that emerged in the 50’s and 60’s led him to discovering sensory deprivation tanks and the work of John Lilly and Jay Surely.

He speaks at the 2016 Conference on why sensory deprivation originally became associated with brainwashing, and the culture that surrounded it at the time.
