Public Transportation from the Airport

Learn about Portland’s public transportation system

Portland is known for its good public transportation, and even getting from the airport to downtown (where the conference is), is a simple train ride. This means it’s easy to get by without renting a car.

The train in portland is called the MAX, and it connects to the airport. There is only one line that actually goes to the airport (the Red line), and the airport is the first stop, so it will only be heading into town from there (it will say towards “City Center and Beaverton Transit Center”). So basically, if you hop on the only train you see, you can’t go wrong :)

The Red line will take you all the way to downtown (about a 45-60 minute ride).

Rideshare Options

Uber and Lyft are both widespread in Portland. There is also Zipcar and Car2Go if you prefer to drive yourself. You will also see orange bikes all over Portland, which is part of a bike share program called Biketown. Portland’s newest addition are shared electric scooters. You’ll find Lime Scooters sitting on sidewalks all around town. You can get the app and start riding around easily, leaving the scooter on the sidewalk wherever you want to get off.
