At the 2022 Float Conference, we discussed differences between regulations, guidelines and best practices in order to minimize risk to floaters and liability to centers by identifying and adopting the most appropriate best practices. Chemical safety and compliance with various regulatory requirements are critical aspects of ‘best practices’. Understanding where to find this information and how to properly apply it, is key to legally operating your float centers safely. This is especially true given the relatively young age of the float centers sector of the water treatment industry. In particular, it can be critically impactful when dealing with local health authorities trying to apply practices of other water treatment sectors, such as pools and spas, to your float centers, where it is not appropriate nor feasible to do so. This presentation looks at key information pertaining to the safe and legal use of various chemical products / equipment in float centers, including those for disinfection and those that impact risk. In addition, Jenn reviews several examples of misuse that put centers at risk, as well as instances of misconceptions of what are truly correct, legal practices, even amongst enforcement parties.
