Andrew Loppnow

Andrew Loppnow

Secretary

Andrew is PNW born and raised and an explorer at heart. Over the last decade, he has developed practices around float tanks, spiritual herbalism, meditation, and yoga, to alchemize his own depression and self-doubt into purpose and self-belief. Andrew sees floating, in particular, as the most accessible tool in the modern world to tap into our true potential. As the owner and general manager of Float Seattle, Andrew has grown the business from 2 to 4 locations and committed deeply to his mission to provide space for relaxation, healing, and growth for anyone seeking wellness on their own terms. He has facilitated thousands upon thousands of float sessions and finds joy in connecting with guests daily. Running his float business is his way of making the world just a little better than he found it by helping others reduce suffering in their lives and wake up to their potential.

Stephen Bryla

Stephen Bryla

Board Member

Stephen first discovered floating in 2008 by listening to Joe Rogan describe his float tank experience in a YouTube video (yes this was before his podcast). After having an initial profound experience his first time in the tank, his curiosity was peaked by this modality. It wasn’t until about 7 years later he decided to open a float center. With a few Float Conferences under his belt, he opened Go With The Float in Easthampton, MA in December of 2018.

After struggling to get Go With The Float off the ground, he looked to the float industry for support and guidance. The love and support of the industry inspired him to give back and join a board on the FTA with a mission to get as many people floating as possible. He now also serves on the Float Conference Board and looks forward to collaborating with some of the industry's finest to bring ya’ll yet another amazing Float Con.

Meet the 2021 Board of Directors

Mandi Silcox

Mandi Silcox

Board Member

Mandi opened the doors to Park Row Floats in the Historic District of Chestertown, Maryland in the spring of 2023. After 18 years in education - most recently as the Dean of Academics in a school with over 50 teachers and 700 K-8 students - Mandi turned her attention to the building that now houses Park Row Floats, a beautiful hotel built in 1900. By 2021, the building had lost some of its shine and a bit of its stature, but none of its charm. By 2023, the completely gutted and renovated building has been returned to its former splendor and now accommodates four commercial spaces, including Park Row Floats.

Mandi brings her years of education leadership and adult training with her to the Float Conference Board. She is blending her wealth of adult learning knowledge with her quite new status as a small business owner to bring the new-owner perspective to the Board. Before owning a Float Center, Mandi's go-to icebreaker was to tell everyone that she had grown up in Bermuda. Being the sole owner and operator of Park Row Floats is infinitely more exciting.

Meet the 2021 Board of Directors

Christopher Wardlaw

Christopher Wardlaw

Board Member

Emergent Phenomenology Research Consortium

Christopher Wardlaw (he/him) grew up in Amherst and currently lives in Easthampton. Christopher floated for the first time in 2018 and knew that the tank would somehow be an important part of his life. Little did he know just 3 years later he would become a Float Facilitator at Go With The Float in September of 2021.

Christopher is interested in the woefully unexplored intersections of technical meditation practice and Float Tank phenomenology. Christopher's obsession with the Float Tank has led to logging over 2000 hours in the Tank over the course of his short time in the Float industry, persistently Floating for 15-30 hours a week in sessions ranging from 3-10 hours at a time without exit. While still a novice in the grand scheme, this practice has left Christopher with a formidable experiential knowledge of the Tank, making him uniquely qualified to answer questions a Floater at most any experience level might have.

Christopher is the only flotation industry worker involved in the Emergent Phenomenology Research Consortium. Christopher also has a special interest in the work of Richard Bonk, specifically the Alternate Waking States Induction Method flotation protocol. Christopher has done more AWSIM protocol floats than anyone in the world. Christopher is also the administrator for the Facebook group “Discourse On The Phenomenal Experience of the Float Tank” (DoPE Floats).

Christopher is an enthusiast, evangelist, and believer in the transformative power of the Float Tank as an emergent technology, as it has radically changed his life for the better.
